Immigration Act Landlords Scheme - Announcement of Pilot Areas

16th September 2014

The UK government has recently announced the pilot areas in which the Immigration Act Landlords Scheme will run. Peter Bolton King, RICS Global Residential Director describes the scheme in simple terms as one “under which landlords are required to check the immigration status of tenants.”

Although the South East is not included within the pilot areas, the scheme may well be rolled out to the rest of the country if successful. The Home Office plans to run the pilot scheme in the following local authority areas of the West Midlands: Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Sandwell, Dudley and Walsall.

The Home and Office and RICS are currently working together on the code of practice that will support the scheme. Further details are expected to be released closer to the launch date of the pilot scheme on 1st December 2014.
